The Summit High cross-country girls are set to compete in the Nike Cross Nationals Saturday in Portland. Teams and individuals qualified for the nationals at eight regional meets.
Summit — which will compete under the team name “Central Oregon” at the national meet — is ranked second in the nation in the latest rankings by www.milesplit.com. Naperville North High School (Illinois) is ranked No. 1.
The Class 6A state champion Summit girls team won the Nike Cross Northwest Regional Championships in Eagle, Idaho, on Nov. 10, to earn a spot in the Nike Cross Nationals. Summit placed four runners in the top 25 to win the meet with 54 points. Junior Fiona Max, the Class 6A individual champion, led the way for Summit, placing sixth in 17 minutes, 44 seconds.
Other Summit entries for the national meet are juniors Isabel Max, Azza Borovicka-Swanson, Kelsey Gripekoven and Stella Skovborg, sophomore Jasper Fievet and freshman Teaghan Knox.
On Nov. 3 in Eugene, the Summit girls won their 11th consecutive OSAA state championship.
The Nike Cross Nationals will take place at Glendoveer Golf Course in northeast Portland. The girls race, which includes a field of 204 runners, starts at 10:05 a.m. Saturday. A live webcast feed of the event is available at nikecrossnationals.com.
