Tres Kirkebo, from Lakewood, Washington, birdied five times and limited his mistakes en route to a 2-under-par 70 during the second round of the at the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Bend Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.
One of six players in the 75-player field to finish under par in the second round, Kirkebo birdied three of the final four holes to head into the final round with a 36-hole score of 5 under. Tied for second at 3 under are first-round leader Greg Sanders, from Anchorage, Alaska, and Robbie Ziegler, from Portland.
Bend’s Brandon Kearney had three birdies over the last seven holes, though he also bogeyed twice to settle for a second-round 2 over. For the tournament, Kearney is tied for seventh at 1 over. Charlie Rice, also of Bend, is tied for 13th at 3 over, and Bend’s Brad Mombert and Josh Gordon are tied for 15th at 4 over.
