Bend climber 46th at Bouldering Nationals — Chase McDonald, a climber who trains with Bend Endurance Academy, finished 46th in the Male Youth B division qualifying round at the 2018 Bouldering Youth National Championship, which was held om Salt Lake City Friday through Sunday. McDonald scored 39.9 points out of a possible 100 on four climbing problems. Fifty-four climbers competed in the Male Youth B division, which is open to boys born in 2003 and 2004.
New race combines road, mountain biking — The Best of Both bike race, which will be held June 16 at Wanoga Sno-park, will combine a 62-mile road race and 23-mile mountain bike race on singletrack trails. There will be a number of competition categories, including women’s and men’s pro races with equal prize purses, women’s and men’s amateur divisions, a “heavy metal ride” for steel or aluminum frames and a team relay in which one each partner will complete one leg. There will also be a supported “Challenge Ride” for those who want to enjoy the course without racing. Both legs of the race will start and finish at Wanoga. Two Bend players named to Team USA — Kylie Brown, 14, and Lexus Ace, 13, both of Bend, have been named to the Junior Women Team USA, which will compete at the World Skate Inline Hockey World Championships, which will be held in Roana, Italy, July 22-28. The roster includes 11 players from Arizona, California, Nevada and Oregon.
