Registration still open for La Pine Loop — Registration remains open for the La Pine Loop, a six-hour adventure race that will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 28 at La Pine State Park. The race, billed as suitable for novice adventure racers, will take place on singletrack and include navigation around the Deschutes River. The entry fee varies from $90 for solo racers to $320 for a four-person team. Registration closes at 5 p.m. Friday. More information is available at


COCC improves to 4-0 — Central Oregon Community College defeated Oregon Tech 22-7 at home Saturday to remain unbeaten. Gary Jacques scored two tries for the Bobcats and Zach Ferguson and Lane Crismon each scored one. Dalton Chambers made a two-point conversion kick. COCC will not play this weekend but will travel to the AKM Memorial Rugby Tournament at Enterprise Park in Redding, California, the following weekend.

Roughriders dominate Eugene — The Bend Rugby Club beat the Eugene Rugby Club 75-5 in Eugene on Saturday to improve to 4-0 in the Division 2 Pacific Northwest Rugby Union and 6-1 overall. Bend’s Austin Alley and Tommy Charles each scored three tries and Ryan Brown made 10 of 11 conversion kicks. The Roughriders have outscored their opponents 227-15 in their past three matches.


Mountain View COBO tryout dates set — Tryouts for Central Oregon Basketball Organization girls teams will be held from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Nov. 2 and 7 at the Mountain View High School gym. The program is open to girls in fifth through eighth grade who live in the Mountain View attendance area. The 12-game season will start in mid-November and conclude with a playoff tournament in February. The cost for the season is $195, but tryouts are free. COBO hosting No-School Day Camp — Central Oregon Basketball Organization will host a camp for sixth- through eighth-grade boys and girls Friday at Pilot Butte Middle School. Redmond Turkey Trot set for Thanksgiving morning — The Redmond Turkey Trot 5K and 10K will start at the Radlands trailhead at the High Desert Sports Complex at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23. The loop course follows a narrow trail. Entry costs $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K, and online registration is open through Nov. 20. MACRD Turkey Trot registration available — The Madras Aquatic Center Recreation District Turkey Trot will begin at the Madras Aquatic Center at 9 a.m. Nov. 25. Participants may enter 5K or 10K runs or a 5K walk. Entry costs $5 for MAC members, $10 for in-district residents and $15 otherwise. Registration is available at www.macrec or at the race site starting at 8 a.m. Top finishers will win a frozen turkey or pie.
