After breaking the game open with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Elks gave the momentum back to Portland by allowing six runs in the top of the eighth.

Bend would ultimately hang on for a 9-7 West Coast League victory Thursday night at Vince Genna Stadium.

The Elks (9-15) received a stellar starting pitching effort from Ryan Kaser. He delivered seven innings of one-run ball but was lifted in the eighth after allowing the first two batters to reach. Those batters ultimately scored.

Bend’s Joe Williams pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the summer.

Zach Needham hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth for the Elks. He finished with three RBIs. Designated hitter Dante DeNiro went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Bend’s defense finished the game without an error, while the Pickles committed one.
