Collin Runge of the Bend Elks has been named to the all-West Coast League first team for 2018. The all-league teams and annual awards were announced Wednesday by WCL commissioner Rob Neyer.
Runge, an infielder from Redmond who graduated from Ridgeview High School and will be a senior at the University of Portland this fall, was named to the all-WCL first team as a utility player. He played a variety of positions for the Elks this season, including playing one inning at all nine positions in a late-season game against Wenatchee.
Runge batted .282 with five home runs and a team-leading 10 stolen bases. He was the only Elks player named to the 16-member first team.
No Elks were named to the second team, but five received honorable mention: infielders Tristan Alvarez (Fresno Pacific) and Ty Holmstrom (Union College), outfielder Alex Pallios (Chico State), and pitchers Sam Muskat (Montana State-Billings) and Ace Embree (Northwest Nazarene). Embree is a graduate of Bend’s Summit High.
Kelowna’s Trent Tinglestad was named WCL most valuable player. Wenatchee’s Curtis Bafus and Corvallis’ Landen Bourassa were named co-pitchers of the year. Kelowna’s Bryan Donohue and Portland’s Just Barchus were named co-coaches of the year.
