Matt Kroon, an infielder for the Bend Elks, has been named West Coast League player of the week for July 10-16, league president Brian Sloan announced Monday.
Kroon was 12-for-25 with three home runs, 13 RBIs, 11 runs scored and five stolen bases as he led the surging Elks to a record of 5-1 for the week.
A native of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kroon was a sophomore this past spring at Central Arizona College. For the summer, he is batting .333 with four homers, 20 RBIs and nine stolen bases. In June, he was selected in the 30th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Philadephia Phillies.
Kroon began his college career at Oregon before transferring to Central Arizona. He is bound for Oklahoma State in the fall.
