WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Bend Elks did not have another comeback in them.

A night after rallying from a 13-5 deficit for a 17-14 West Coast League win, Bend’s season-high six-game winning streak ended with a 13-7 loss to the Sweets on Sunday.

After the Elks scored twice in the top of the first inning, Walla Walla erupted for four runs in the bottom of the first, three coming on a triple by John Glenn. The Sweets led the rest of the way.

Matt Kroon homered as part of a 3-for-5, four-RBI day for the Elks, who are off two days for the WCL All-Star break, which features a home run derby on Monday night and the All-Star game on Tuesday night, both at Yakima (Washington) County Stadium.

Representing the Elks in the 10-player home run contest will be Collin Runge. An infielder from the University of Portland, Runge is also slated for the All-Star game, joining Bend teammates Derek Chapman, an outfielder from Washington State, and Khalil Rivera, a pitcher from Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario.

The Elks, now 7-5 in the second half, resume league play Wednesday when they kick off a three-game home series with Gresham. Game time at Vince Genna Stadium for the series opener against the GreyWolves is 6:35 p.m.
