WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Jordan Freese’s single scored Joe Casey to break a 13-13 tie in the top of the 12th inning, and the Bend Elks added three more runs en route to a wild 17-14 West Coast League victory over Walla Walla on Saturday night.

The Elks came back from a 13-5 deficit after the fourth inning to notch their season-high sixth consecutive win and improve to 7-4 in the second half of the WCL season.

Zach Clayton had four of Bend’s 20 hits and Charlie Maxwell had three. Pat Flynn’s team-leading five RBIs included a grand slam that put the Elks ahead 4-0 in the first inning.

The Sweets answered quickly with four runs in the home half of the first and took command with an eight-run fourth inning. Bend’s comeback featured a five-run sixth inning, and it was 13-13 after nine.

After Freese’s tiebreaking hit in the 12th, Jaylon McLaughlin hit a two-run double and Derek Chapman added an RBI single. Walla ­Walla managed a run in the bottom of the 12th, but the Elks held on to keep their streak alive.

The teams conclude their three-game series Sunday. Following the two-day All-Star break, the Elks are back home to open a three-game set against Gresham on Wednesday night.
