VICTORIA, British Columbia — Jack Pauley hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning, James Acuna scattered seven hits over 7 2/3 innings, and the Bend Elks won a road series for just the second time this season with a 6-1 win Sunday over the Victoria HarbourCats.

The Elks (2-4 second half, 14-19 overall) won their first road series, from June 8-10 at Cowlitz before losing their next four. They improved to 5-13 on the road after taking two of three from the HarbourCats (5-2, 19-5).

Pauley, a junior from Northern Colorado, drove in Colton Cosner with his second home run of the season and added an RBI single in the third inning. He leads the Elks with a .361 batting average.

Jaylon McLaughlin scored after an errant throw while he was attempting to steal third base in the seventh, and Cosner and Collin Runge had RBI doubles in the ninth.

Acuna struck out eight, walked none and allowed one run. Since a disastrous outing in an 8-0 loss at Bellingham on June 19, the Oregon Ducks sophomore has allowed five runs in 20 innings to lower his ERA to 3.75.

The Elks return home for a three-game series against the Bells beginning Monday. First pitch at Vince Genna Stadium is set for 6:35 p.m.
