CLACKAMAS — “We kind of ran out of our mojo today.”

That was how Bend North coach C.J. Colt assessed his team’s performance Thursday afternoon in an 11-2 loss to Lake Oswego in the championship round of the Oregon Little League 8- to 10-year-olds baseball state tournament.

Reaching the championship round out of the losers bracket, Bend North needed to beat undefeated Lake Oswego twice Thursday to capture the state title. And the Bend All-Stars held their own, answering a three-run top of the third inning by Lake Oswego with two runs in the bottom half to stay within 3-2.

“That’s when the wheels kind of fell off,” said Colt. “We had a couple of tough plays, things just didn’t go our way.”

Lake Oswego scored four runs in the fourth inning and again in the fifth to win going away.

“We gave ourselves a chance and played hard all the way to the end,” said Colt, whose District 5 champions won four of six games in the eight-team, double-elimination state tournament at Riverside Park. “I’m super proud of the overall All-Star experience for these kids.”
