CLACKAMAS — A third straight win in loser-out games has Bend North playing in the championship round of the Oregon Little League 8- to 10-year-olds baseball state tournament.

Cole Morford’s two-run single was the big hit in a seven-run third inning, and Bend North turned back a sixth-inning rally by Hollywood Rose City on Wednesday to beat the Portlanders 10-7 at Riverside Park. Now 4-1 in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament, the Bend All-Stars take on undefeated Lake Oswego on Thursday, needing to beat the District 4 champions twice to claim the state championship.

Game time Thursday is 3:30 p.m.; a second game will follow if Bend North prevails in the first game.

Bend North played errorless defense Wednesday and got four innings of solid relief from winning pitcher Henry Gruetzmacher. Hollywood tallied four runs in the sixth inning to close within three, but Bennett Wyatt came on to strike out the final two batters and secure the victory for the District 5 champions.

Cooper Hilts and Brennan Colt each had two hits for Bend North; Hilts drove in a run, and Colt scored twice.
