VICTORIA, British Columbia — Bend had 11 hits but left 10 runners on base Monday night in a 5-3 loss to the Victoria HarbourCats that ended the Elks’ six-game winning streak.

Victoria had only eight hits but they included the big blow of the game, a two-run homer in the seventh inning by Chase Wehsener that proved to be the difference in the opener of a three-game series.

The Elks led 2-0 early after an RBI double by Gabe Gonzalez in the second inning and a run-scoring single by Nelson Padilla in the fourth. The HarbourCats rallied for two runs in the fourth to tie the game, then went ahead with a run in the sixth.

Wehsener’s homer was the lone hit allowed by Ryan Kaser, the third of three Elks pitchers. Kaser struck out four over two innings. Bend starter Michael Hansell allowed two unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five innings.
