MOUNT BACHELOR — A top-three sweep for Summit in the boys 4-kilometer classic race Saturday helped propel the Storm to their fourth consecutive boys team title at the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association nordic state championships.
Summit also claimed its fourth straight girls team title in the two-day event as well as the combined girls and boys team title.
The Storm’s Will Lange won the classic race at the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center Saturday in 14 minutes, 14 seconds. His teammate Mario Cacciola finished second (14:18) and Jack Conde, also of Summit, was third (14:56). Six Storm skiers finished in the top 10.
After winning the 5.5K freestyle race on Friday, Lange took the combined (freestyle and classic) individual title for the second straight year.
Cacciola was second and Conde third in the combined results.
The three skiers also helped Summit win the boys relay race Saturday in 7:11, finishing ahead of runner-up Bend High (7:45) and third-place Mountain View (7:48).
Summit claimed the boys team title with 18 points, Bend was second (64) and Mountain View third (85).
In girls action Saturday, Ann McColgan of Bend won the 4K classic race in 15:14 after finishing second in the freestyle race Friday. Sarah Kilroy of Redmond Proficiency Academy finished second in the classic race (15:57) after winning the freestyle Friday. Bend’s Alice McKnight took third in the classic race in 16:20.
McColgan also secured the combined individual championship ahead of second-place Kilroy and third-place McKnight in the combined standings.
RPA took the girls relay race in 8:30, Summit finished second (8:35) and Bend third (9:24).
Summit edged RPA for the girls team title with 45 points. RPA finished second with 47 points and Bend was third with 48.
The Storm claimed the combined boys and girls team title with 63 points. Bend took second (112) and Mountain View was third (195).
