A 16-0 run early in the second half put Trinity Lutheran in charge, and the Saints rolled past Riddle 62-41 Friday night and into the Class 1A boys basketball state tournament.
Trinity Lutheran will face Mountain Valley League rival Triad of Klamath Falls on Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the eight-team tournament at Baker High School. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
In Friday’s game, the No. 11 seed Irish played the No. 6 seed Saints to a 24-24 deadlock at halftime. Freshman guard Scooty Gilbert scored all of his 15 points in the first half for Trinity.
The Saints made nine of their 10 shots in the third quarter to take a 43-29 lead. Riddle (23-5) got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Despite foul trouble, Matt Eidler led Trinity with 16 points and nine rebounds. In addition to Gilbert’s 15 points, Cash Niemeyer had 10 points and eight rebounds.
No. 3 Triad advanced to Baker City with a 60-42 win Friday over No. 14 Perrydale. The Timberwolves and Saints split their league series, Triad winning 54-42 in December in Klamath Falls, Trinity winning 35-31 last month in Bend.
