After trailing by three goals with a minute remaining, Summit scored with only a few seconds left to get to within one against Bend High on Tuesday. Justin Radatti had a look at a potential game-tying score just before the buzzer, but his shot went off the piping as the host Lava Bears secured a 10-9 High Desert League boys lacrosse win at 15th Street Field.
Bennett Bury paced Bend (4-2 HDL, 9-12 overall) with three goals and an assist.
Cody Collins and Radatti each scored three times for Summit (1-2, 3-12), and Jason Ward, Max Asevedo and Henry Bledsoe each had a goal. The Storm’s Will Maskill was credited with 13 saves in goal.
Mountain View 9, Ridgeview 8: REDMOND — Mountain View led 6-3 at halftime and never relinquished the lead even as Ridgeview scored four goals in the third quarter of a High Desert League game. The Cougars finished the regular season at 9-3 and went undefeated (3-0) in the High Desert League for the first time by beating Bend and Sisters in addition to the Ravens (2-2 HDL, 9-6 overall). James Lewis scored four goals for Mountain View and assisted on five more, Jake Hatch scored three goals and had one assist, and Jake Domings scored once. Danny McGinty scored five goals for the Ravens, Brantley Biondi scored two goals and had an assist, and Mike Ashley scored a goal and assisted on two others.
La Pine 4, Coquille 0: LA PINE — Kiah Toepfer’s two-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning, and Josey Hawkins pitched a one-hitter to lift La Pine past Coquille in a Mountain Valley Conference playoff game. Cheyenne Saul added a two-run single in the first inning for the Hawks, the MVC’s No. 3 playoff seed, who beat the No. 4 seed Red Devils for the third time in four meetings this season. Hawkins struck out nine, walked two and was backed by errorless defense. La Pine (14-12 overall) advances to face MVC No. 2 seed Harrisburg on Wednesday at Harrisburg.
La Pine 9, Madras 8: MADRAS — Jake Farnsworth went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to help the Class 3A No. 3-ranked Hawks claim a nonconference win over 4A Madras. Angelo Roes was 2-for-4 with an RBI for La Pine (20-3), and Austin McKittrick had a hit and an RBI. Kanim Smith went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double for Madras (15-9), which scored seven runs in the third inning to lead 7-4.
