This is another installment in a weekly Tee To Green feature in which we check in via email with Central Oregon golf facilities for an offseason update. This week we contacted Brad Hudspeth, general manager of Widgi Creek Golf Club in Bend.

Hudspeth has been involved in the day-to-day operations at Widgi Creek since 2005. This is what he had to say about the current business of golf and about Widgi Creek, a public course in southwest Bend:

Q: How was business in 2014?

A: Business in 2014 for Widgi Creek was really good. We had an increase in rounds played and the course was in as good of shape as ever.

Q: Were any changes of note made to the facility during the last year?

A: We did not have any significant changes to speak of during the year. However, we did make some cart-path repairs and upgrades with the purchase of new maintenance mowing equipment.

Q: Are any changes and/or improvements to the facility scheduled for 2015?

A: No significant changes are planned for 2015, especially if we come out of winter with everything looking good. We are another year away from new golf carts and will have some more maintenance equipment purchases as well.

Q: Much has been made about new initiatives to grow the game (FootGolf, 15-inch holes, Speedgolf, etc.). What, if any, of those initiatives would you consider the most promising?

A: FootGolf, 15-inch holes and Speedgolf are all interesting concepts. One of our pro shop employees competed in the Speedgolf championships at Bandon Dunes and I think it would be the most promising of the bunch.

Q: Has your club either started to offer or does it plan to implement any of those initiatives?

A: At this point in time, we don’t plan on changing up the golf course to implement any of the aforementioned plans.
