Bend Park and Recreation District programs will run as usual leading up to the Aug. 21 eclipse, and most city parks and trails will remain accessible.
Summer camps, the Bend Senior Center and Juniper Swim and Fitness Center will maintain their regular hours and activities. People attending scheduled programs on Aug. 21 will receive eclipse safety glasses.
Juniper Swim and Fitness Center will hold a special orbital fitness workout circuit that morning, with a break to observe the eclipse. The park district recommends walking or biking instead of attempting to park at the center.
The parking lot at Tillicum Park/Chase Ranch will be closed from Wednesday to Aug. 22, and the parking lot at Sawyer Park will be closed from Friday to Aug. 22. Both closures are to reduce fire risks, park services director Michelle Healy said.
Travelers will not be allowed to camp at any city parks.
The park district recommends parents pack extra food and clothes for children in summer camp in case eclipse-related traffic delays pick-up.
