Sunriver’s Richard Shrake has been inducted into the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo Hall of Fame.

Shrake, a longtime horse trainer and horse show judge, joins four other equestrians in the Hall of Fame’s inaugural induction class.

“It was quite an honor,” Shrake, 75, said Monday. “I’ve never really done anything else but horses in my life. I was able to do what I loved.”

This year marked the inaugural edition of the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo Hall of Fame, which will now become an annual event to mark the start of the expo each year. The induction ceremony was held in late February at the National Western Complex in Denver.

Shrake is the founder of the Resistance Free riding and training methods, designed to produce total communication between horse and rider. The style eliminates the need to use forceful methods to train a horse, according to richardshrake.com.
