The fourth annual Hella Big Air contest is scheduled for Saturday at Mt. Bachelor ski area.
The event includes men’s and women’s skiers and snowboarders performing aerial tricks off a massive 60-foot jump. Competitors will be judged on their tricks as they vie for shares of the $20,000 prize purse, which will be split evenly among men’s and women’s competitors in both ski and snowboard divisions.
Competition heats run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by the finals from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Awards are scheduled for 4:15 p.m., followed by live music.
The event, sponsored by 10 Barrel Brewing Co., is open to all skiers and riders ages 18 and older with competition experience. Saturday’s setup will include two jump takeoffs to accommodate a wider range of athletes. Spectators are welcome free of charge.
The first Hella Big Air was staged at Bachelor in 2016. This year, another Hella Big Air event was held March 9 at Copper Mountain, Colorado, and a third is scheduled for April 6 at Sierra-at-Tahoe near South Lake Tahoe, California.
