The Great Nordeen, billed as the largest cross-country ski race in Central Oregon, is adding a fatbike race division for 2016, according to a news release.
The Jan. 30 event is staged from Mt. Bachelor ski area to Wanoga Sno-park on Deschutes National Forest trails.
Now in its 14th year, the Great Nordeen includes 30-kilometer and 18-kilometer nordic ski races. The races start at Bachelor’s West Village Lodge and participants descend to Wanoga.
The fatbike division will feature a 15-kilometer race, starting at Bachelor’s Sunrise Lodge and following the same route as the skiers in the 18K race.
After the race, the Deschutes Historical Society will host an awards party with free drinks and appetizers for all participants.
Registration is available online at www.mbsef.org or by calling the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation at 541-388-0002.
The Great Nordeen is a benefit for MBSEF.
