’Tis the season, the holiday shopping season, which starts Friday for most merchants and later today for a few.
Go and you’ll be met by sale prices on a dizzying array of goods at stores large and small all over Central Oregon. You’ll also get the satisfaction of knowing that most of what you spend in local stores actually stays here, paying local wages, buying locally prepared meals, and so on. In fact, according to American Express, roughly 67 cents of every dollar spent locally stays in the local economy.
Even better, shopping locally is fun. You may run into friends you haven’t seen in a while, or friends you see daily. There will be holiday music indoors and out, and a short walk from the car to the shop can help keep your holiday weight gain in check.
So bundle up, grab your billfold and go shopping. Meet a friend for lunch or a drink. And have fun. It’s what this part of the season is all about.
