March 31, 1946 - March 22, 2019

Winfield Scott Lovejoy III (“Scott”), born March 31, 1946, in Pontiac, Michigan, to W. Scott and Dolores Lovejoy, passed away peacefully in his home on March 22, 2019, with his family by his side. In 2014, Scott was diagnosed with cancer and given a prognosis of six months. He valiantly fought to live life to its fullest for another five years, a heroic gift to his adoring family for which they will be eternally grateful.

Scott spent his early years in Milford, Michigan, playing football, baseball and basketball for Milford High School. After graduating at the top of his class, Scott went to Principia College for two years before transferring to Michigan State University, where he graduated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Scott went on to study law at the Stetson University College of Law, after which he clerked for a United States District Court Judge.

Scott practiced law for over 20 years in Jacksonville, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. He resided in La Canada, California, with his family for 30 years. After retiring from legal practice, Scott entered the business world, owning and operating an independent oil refinery in Southern California. It was here that he met his beloved wife Kristy, and, together with their three young children, decided to move to Bend, Oregon, which he quickly adopted as his home. Not satisfied with retirement, Scott started several business ventures in Bend and, ever the family man, enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with his eldest son.

Scott will be remembered as a kind-hearted, generous, and fun-loving family man who was full of surprises. He was a natural storyteller, gifted in the art of making people laugh. Scott had an energetic and adventurous spirit, taking his family on vacations around the world, including recent trips to Vietnam and New Zealand. Through all his success and life experiences, Scott never forgot who he was or where he came from. He was always a proud Michigander from a blue-collar family with a blue-collar work ethic.

Scott was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Scott is survived by his wife, Kristy, and their three children, Tyler, Logan and Kimberly; his son, Travis, and three grandkids, Nathan, Flynn and Ashley; and his sister, Terry.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on April 5, 2019, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 2555 NW Shevlin Park Rd., Bend, OR 97701.
