Raffling a rifle to raise campaigns funds for school board candidates is totally on brand for our local Deschutes County Republicans. The grand prize at the Republicans’ fundraiser this spring is a high-powered rifle capable of putting down any animal in North America.

Killing of children by guns is now the leading cause of death for children aged one to 18 in the United States. More children die by guns than by car accidents, by cancer, or by any other cause.

Meanwhile, down here in Arizona, the Republican response to MSU two days later..

In 2020, the most recent year for which complete data is available, 45,222 people died from gun-related injuries in the U.S., according to the CDC.

The Deschutes Co GOP tries to defend a gun as a prize. Not a toaster, car wash, ticket to fun venue… a gun. Read the room. Most voters, even Republicans, want a check on gun culture.

While the response by the DCR head makes some points about gun safety, particularly with those who hunt, their timing, well, let's just say it's not the best.

The 2/15/23 Markstein cartoon is the real response by many, but not all Republicans.

Remember GR776, hug your son as you would your gun. It appears you care less about the sons and daughters of other folks.

Meanwhile, in Idahoistan, the Rs are cooking up all kinds of good stuff....

Hug your son as you would your gun...
