July 16, 1920 - Dec. 13, 2012

Julia (Judy) Lembkey Brosius Dobell, of Bend, passed away December 13, 2012, at the age of 92 after a stroke. Born to William Louis and Julia Lembkey Brosius on July 16, 1920, in Detroit, MI. After serving as a military dietitian during WWII, she moved to Corvallis, OR, where she met and married Joseph Porter Dobell. Together they raised four children beginning in Seattle, WA, Houghton, MI, and Riverton, WY, finally retiring in Dayville, OR.

Judy Moved to Bend in 1994, and there couldn't have been a better match. She loved the high desert's open spaces, and being close enough to mountains she could almost touch. She loved to be up high basking in warm sunshine surrounded by her absolute favorite thing, wildflowers. Over the years she volunteered at the High Desert Museum, St. Charles Hospital, and Trinity Episcopal Church. She found herself a loving home at church and her Starwood neighborhood where she will be greatly missed. A lifelong learner, she continued to feed a variety of interests. Among them were flowers, rug hooking, history, archeology and human nature. Always curious, she knew everyone had a story and a place in the world and learning about you was how she respected your friendship.

Judy was thrilled to travel a bit, getting to Ireland, Greece, Mexico, and the beaches of Normandy just to name a few. She relished traveling to see family and grandchildren in Colorado, Wyoming and California.

Judy is survived by son, Bill and wife, Patty of Granite, OR; son, John and wife, Reba of Steamboat Springs, CO and grandchildren, Jake, Kathleen, Rachel, Joe, Izzy, Lauren, her husband, Zack; great- grandchildren Colton and Kylie; daughter, Julie Hamilton and husband, Jim of Bend, grandchildren, Ella Newell and husband, Andrew, Charles and Lydia; daughter-in-law, Denise and grandson, Turner of Wyoming. She was predeceased by son, Tom Dobell, brother, William Brosius, sister, Elizabeth Brosius and husband, Joseph.

We want to thank the folks at Hospice House here in Bend for taking such loving care of her during her passing. If you wish to make a charitable donation in our mother's memory, please keep these folks in mind. Contact Trinity Episcopal Church in February for Celebration of Life details.
