Rabbi Yitzchok Feldman, director of Chabad of Central Oregon, prepares a giant menorah Monday in his house in Bend. The first light of the menorah will be lit today at 5 p.m. in the Old Mill District between The Gap and Anthony’s to kick off Hanukkah.
“This menorah is the ultimate display of joy and unity,” Feldman said. “The holiday of Hanukkah is a festival of a historic victory and celebration for all times, highlighted by the kindling of menorahs each night of the holiday. Yet it also contains a universal message for people of all faiths; that ultimately, good will triumph over evil, freedom over oppression and light over darkness.”
A party will follow the kindling of the menorah at 520 Powerhouse Drive, Suite 627, above the Victoria’s Secret store. There will be music, educational crafts, gifts for children and Hanukkah treats for all ages.
