A fire near the community of Rowena in the Columbia River Gorge prompted Wasco County emergency officials to send out a level one evacuation warning for some people living in the area Sunday afternoon.

According to Wasco County Emergency Manager Sheridan McClellan, a level one alert was sent to people living within the area from 6090 U.S. Highway 30 West to 5220 U.S. Highway 30.

A level one alert is meant to tell residents to get ready, McClellan said.

The Oregon Department of Transportation closed Highway 30 in both directions as well.

A Oregon Department of Forestry account tweeted that the fire was about 10 acres of grass and scrub oak. The agency said that crews had stopped the fire’s spread and would continue to work on through the night.
