A bill that allows bicycle riders to roll through stop signs in some intersections if there is no traffic narrowly passed the House Tuesday. It now goes to Gov. Kate Brown for her signature.
Senate Bill 998 legalizes the so-called “Idaho Stop,” named after a similar law in that state. Currently, bicyclists in Oregon are required to come to a full stop at signed intersections.
The bill passed 31-28. Rep. Cheri Helt, R-Bend, voted yes. Rep. Jack Zika, R-Redmond, voted no.
