Initiative would require sixth graders study firearms safety

The Oregon House passed a bill Tuesday to ban ghost guns, those made with untraceable parts. The bill also restricts the types of firearms that can be obtained by those ages 18-21.

The Oregon House split along party lines Tuesday to approve a ban on so-called ghost guns made with untraceable parts.

The 35-24 vote sent House Bill 2005 to the Senate, which can only take an up-or-down vote on it. No Democrat voted against it, and no Republican voted for it. One Republican, James Hieb of Canby, was absent from the vote.

'....there is simply no jurisdiction for state regulation of a constitutionally protected right.”'

Not true and SCOTUS has said so.

Once again, the one-party controlled legislature exploits death and tragedy, uses it as means to subvert the absolute right of private citizens, who have committed no crime, to own firearms. Meanwhile they do nothing to control the violent behavior of the criminals, deranged maniacs, and insane people who are making us all unsafe.

Common sense, low-hanging fruit, much needed firearms regulation. Bring on more. The "right to bear arms" needs to shove over quite a bit for more room for the freedom to live free from deadly violence.

This is a small but meaningful step. Only an assault weapon and high capacity magazine ban can stem this uniquely American epidemic of violence.
