SALEM — Gov. Kate Brown on Tuesday ordered flags at public institutions fly at half-staff on Friday for World War II Medal of Honor recipient Bob Maxwell of Bend.

Maxwell, 98, died May 11. A memorial in Redmond and burial in Terrebonne are scheduled for Friday.

“I had the honor of spending some time with Bob a few years back, and learned firsthand about his experiences in the war,” Brown said Tuesday. “He was a true hero. I’m in awe of, and grateful for, his service to our nation.”

Brown said flags should be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday.
