Portable wastewater treatment machines and mini desalination plants sound like futuristic concepts — but both are currently in the research stage by engineers at OSU-Cascades. The technologies behind these plans will be discussed at the upcoming Science Pub, to be held Oct. 15 at McMenamins Old St. Francis in Bend.
The presentation will be led by OSU-Cascades assistant professor Bahman Abbasi, who will discuss efforts underway at the Bend campus that may help communities around the world in need of clean water.
In his presentation, Abbasi will discuss how micro-treatment plants being developed here in Bend could one day be fitted onto trucks, transported to remote areas, and powered by renewable technology.
The Science Pub is free but space is limited, so OSU-Cascades requires registration by 5 p.m. on Oct 14. Science Pubs take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with the presentation starting at 6:30 p.m. To register, visit osucascades.edu/sciencepubs.
