Weekend snowshoe tours at Mount Bachelor west of Bend are set to start Saturday and continue until spring.

The Deschutes National Forest, Mt. Bachelor ski area and Discover Your Forest plan to offer the tours Saturdays and Sundays until March 29 as snow conditions allow, the national forest announced Friday. The tours are also offered during weekdays during school breaks.

Tours last about 90 minutes and are planned to start at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.. from the Forest Service snowshoe hut in Mt. Bachelor’s West Village. Participants must be 10 or older and wear warm boots and clothes. Snowshoes are provided and no prior experience is necessary. Tours are free, with donations accepted.

Roving rangers will also be on the mountain, answering questions and giving impromptu talks, the national forest said. Group tours, for schools and other organizations, may be arranged.
