In a rarely contested race, incumbent Ray Miao appears to have prevailed with 59% of the vote over opponent Betsy Tucker, who had 41% as of Tuesday night, for the open director seat on the Deschutes Public Library District board.
Incumbents Cynthia Claridge and Ann Malkin both won their uncontested races.
Miao, 75, is a founding member of the 20-year-old board, and will continue to represent a zone that covers southeast Bend, part of downtown and rural areas south of Bend.
This was Tucker’s first bid for public office. Tucker, 39, a finance manager for the Bend Park & Recreation District, recently joined the library district’s budget committee.
