Kenwood School, Bend-La Pine Schools’ oldest school, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sept. 21 with a community event.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kenwood, community members can see photos and memorabilia related to the school from the past 100 years, watch a short film about Kenwood, share memories of the school and more, according to a Bend-La Pine press release.

Kenwood, which now hosts Highland Magnet, opened to the public in the 1919-20 school year. Through the years, it had livestock grazing in the courtyard and victory gardens planted in its front lawn during World War II.

“We are excited to celebrate our school’s rich history and look forward to hearing stories and memories from previous generations who spent time at Kenwood as we open up this historic space to the entire community,” Kenwood’s principal, Brian Kissell, said in the press release.

Kenwood is located at 701 NW Newport Avenue in Bend.
