Community members and families interested in seeing Bend’s new North Star Elementary before school starts will get the chance Thursday.
At 4:30 p.m., Bend-La Pine Schools is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for North Star, which will welcome its first students Sept. 4. At the event, attendees can meet North Star teachers and staff, tour the building and eat free barbecue.
North Star, located in north Bend at the intersection of O.B. Riley and Cooley roads, cost $33.2 million to build and was paid for as part of a record-setting $268.3 million bond measure passed by voters in 2017. It is Bend-La Pine’s 16th elementary school and has 24 classrooms divided into four wings, a field with two playgrounds, separate gym and lunchroom and more.
