Four principal candidates have been named to lead Bear Creek Elementary next school year, and all have school administrative experience.
Teresa Baldwin was an administrator in multiple school districts in the Vancouver, Washington, area, including serving as Washougal School District’s superintendent and the director for elementary and secondary education at Evergreen Public Schools.
Tara Bourland, the principal of Prineville-based k-8 charter school Cascade Virtual Academy, has also held administrative positions in the Tigard-Tualatin and North Clackamas school districts, and was the principal of Firwood Elementary School near Sandy.
Sam Platt is the only candidate with experience in Deschutes County. Platt has served as the assistant principal of Obsidian Middle School in Redmond for five years, and was previously an athletic director at Elton Gregory Middle School, also in Redmond.
J.P. Richards is the director of human resources at Three Rivers School District in Grants Pass. Before that, he was the principal of East Elementary School in Tillamook, and was an administrator in other schools in Tillamook, Klamath Falls and Estacada.
All four candidates also have teaching experience.
The public can meet the candidates at a community forum in the Bear Creek gym at 4:30 p.m. Monday, where the candidates will give presentations and answer questions, according to a Bend-La Pine Schools press release.
The new principal will replace acting principal Kevin Gehrig, who will leave to head the new North Star Elementary, on July 1. The previous principal, Anissa Wiseman resigned this spring due to personal health concerns.
