U.S. attorney for Oregon announces massive drug bust

A Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputy died Monday in a motorcycle crash in Wheeler County.

Authorities were called at about 7:30 p.m. to a report of a motorcycle crash on state Highway 207 north of Mitchell.

Christopher S. Jones, 48, was riding a black 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he left the road at a corner and crashed.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jones was hired by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 2007, according to the state police academy, the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. Jones worked as a deputy for the Lane County Sheriff’s Office from 2001 to 2007.

Jones, a Madras resident, was married with two adult sons.

On Tuesday, a procession of law enforcement vehicles escorted Jones’ body back to Bend. Local authorities in Redmond, Prineville and Bend stopped traffic at interchanges as the procession passed.
