Grants Pass Police say Benjamin Obadiah Foster, who is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and assault, may have changed his appearance and look more like the photo on the left.
The woman who authorities say was kidnapped and assaulted by a man who is now the subject of a nationwide manhunt remained in critical condition in a hospital Sunday.
Grants Pass police said the search for the woman’s attacker continues. Benjamin Obadiah Foster, 36, is wanted for attempted murder, kidnapping and assault. Police warned Foster may have changed his appearance by shaving his beard and hair or by changing his hair color. He may be using dating apps to lure other women to attack or to help him elude capture, police said last week.
The agency says it has received dozens of tips. Chief Warren Hensman said Sunday that the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force is now involved in the efforts to locate Foster.
Foster tried to kill the victim in Grants Pass while “intentionally torturing” her and secretly confining her “in a place where she was not likely to be found,”
Josephine County District Attorney Joshua Eastman wrote in court records. According to a fundraiser for the 35-year-old woman, she suffered severe and extensive injuries to her face and neck.
On Jan. 24, police went to a home in a residential neighborhood of Grants Pass to investigate an assault, although police officials have not provided details about how they were alerted.
Hensman declined to say whether police had previously been called to the residence.
He said the suspect and the victim were in a “prior domestic relationship.”
When they arrived, the officers found a woman who had been bound and beaten unconscious.
Hensman said his agency is focused on finding Foster.
“Everybody is involved,” he said. “There is not a person in my department who is not going to be touched by this.”
