A commercial vehicle driver was killed Wednesday night when he or she attempted to cross U.S. Highway 97 on foot and was struck by a car.
Oregon State Police has not released the name of the person killed, pending notification of next of kin.
At about 9:20 p.m., the person pulled over on the northbound shoulder about 5 miles north of the Deschutes County line and got out of their vehicle. A Chevrolet traveling south struck the person as they attempted to cross.
The Chevrolet was driven by Megan Kelly, 28, of Bend.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Kelly was transported to the hospital with injuries.
