The road to the top of Pilot Butte will open to vehicles at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Weather permitting, the gate at the base of the butte will open daily at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., subject to change as days get longer, according to an announcement from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The road is open seasonally, but is also used by pedestrians, and motorists are urged to obey the 20 mph speed limit and use caution around blind corners.
Pedestrians are encouraged to use the walking path on the outer edge of the road or the nature trail that goes to the top of the butte.
All vehicles must leave the summit and summit road by the gate closure time.
Drinking water is currently unavailable on the summit while parks department officials work on water line repairs.
