Bulletin Staff Report

A 12-year-old girl was arrested Tuesday night in connection to a video that circulated on social media referencing a possible shooting at La Pine Middle School, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

The four-second video uploaded to Snapchat shows a young girl claiming, “our school’s gonna get shot up.” The sheriff’s office is not releasing the name of the arrested girl or saying if she is the same girl in the video.

At about 9 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office learned about the video.

Deputies spoke with several students about the video, and arrested the girl.

Sgt. William Bailey said the sheriff’s office is still investigating the credibility of the threat.

“I don’t think there is an active or imminent threat,” Bailey said. “But we want to be thorough in the investigation and talk to every person we want.”

There was an increased law enforcement presence in area schools Wednesday, and deputies will remain at the schools as the investigation continues, Bailey said.

“They are still in the schools even attempting to talk to students,” Bailey said Wednesday afternoon. “Currently, we have only charged the one student at this point.”
