A Bend man who has volunteered with the Bend High School swim program was arrested Tuesday in a child pornography investigation, according to Bend Police.

Authorities identified Wyatt Anthony Carrell, 20, following a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force, Bend Police Sgt. Bob Jones in a news release said. Carrell is alleged to have uploaded at least 27 images and videos depicting children engaged in sex acts during the past six months, Jones said.

Carrell was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon during a traffic stop at NE Purcell Boulevard and U.S. Highway 20 in Bend. Officers with the Bend Police Department on Tuesday night searched Carrell’s home on Sonata Way and his 2001 Toyota Avalon. Police seized alleged evidence, and Carrell was booked in jail on suspicion of 27 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse and one count of possession of a forgery device.

Julianne Repman, a spokesperson for Bend-La Pine Schools, confirmed that Carrell volunteered with Bend High’s swim program last season as a volunteer assistant coach for the school’s boys and girls team. Repman said Carrell did not travel with the teams for away meets, but did attend practices and home events.

Carrell was a swim instructor and lifeguard at the Sunriver Homeowners Aquatic & Recreation Center, but no longer works there, according to a statement provided by the Sunriver Owners Association, which would not provide employment dates.

“At this point, the charges do not appear to involve activity related to Carrell’s employment with Sunriver Owners Association,” the statement reads.
