Bend Fire and Rescue’s annual Christmas food drive, known as the Santa Express, began Monday night.

Each year, firefighters decorate an engine and, with the help of Santa Claus in his sleigh, drive slowly through the city so residents can bring out non-perishable food, toys and warm clothing for families in need.

Firefighters, their families and community groups will walk alongside the engine and the sleigh to receive donations.

The program description and route maps are located on the City of Bend website. People who do not live along these routes can donate at any fire station or at all Starbucks stores through Dec. 12. The drive continues Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights in various Bend neighborhoods.
