A La Pine man who was arrested in August for several alleged rapes was indicted this month on 59 charges of sex crimes after more victims came forward.

More victims reported various sex crimes after Rusty Pugh, 47, was arrested in Aug. 22 for five counts of rape, according to Bend Police. Officers originally arrested Pugh during a traffic stop at Empire Avenue and U.S. Highway 97.

He had been identified as a suspect in a two-month investigation into several rapes from the early 2000s.

The most recent accusations have come from a 16-year-old victim, who last week reported several sex crimes that happened between 2009 and 2013, police said.

New charges include 12 counts of first-degree sodomy, 10 counts of first-degree sex abuse, five counts of using a child in display of sexual conduct, three counts of encouraging child sex abuse in the second degree and one count of first-degree sexual penetration with an object.

At the end of August, three victims came forward with new alleged crimes that occurred between 2004 and 2019, Bend Police said.

They include 10 counts of first-degree sex abuse and 5 counts of first-degree sodomy.

Pugh’s arraignment is scheduled for later this month.

Bend Police detectives are still investigating multiple cases regarding Rusty Pugh.
