An injured climber was rescued Friday after falling in the Dihedrals climbing area inside Smith Rock State Park.

Luke Wilson, 29, of Bishop, California, fell from the rock face and was caught by his climbing equipment, but swung hard into the wall with enough force to injure one of his legs, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office and volunteer search and rescue crews responded at about 2:49 p.m. along with Redmond Fire Department and park staff.

Wilson was wearing protective equipment and climbing with other climbers who were able to help him until responders arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.

Wilson was treated on scene by Redmond paramedics and transported out on the trails on a wheeled litter. He was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Bend.
