Fishing in Central Oregon rivers, streams and lakes won’t require a license this weekend as the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is offering free fishing weekend Saturday and Sunday. Crabbing and clamming on the Oregon Coast will also be free and not require a license.
ODFW has tips for several types of fishing.
For trout, people are encouraged to focus on areas where water temperatures are cooler.
Bass fishing is recommended in ponds, rivers and reservoirs throughout the state.
Those looking to catch and release fish are encouraged to fish early in the day when the water and air temperature are the coolest. People should keep the fish in the water while landing and releasing it, and revive the fish in moving water before releasing it.
If the hook cannot be removed easily, people should cut the leader near the hook, which will eventually dissolve.
