Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife if offering free fishing weekend Saturday and Sunday, when people will not need a license, tag or endorsement to fish, crab or clam anywhere in Oregon.
ODFW has tips for several types of fishing.
For trout, people are encouraged to focus on areas where water temperatures are cooler.
Tuna are relatively close to the ocean shore and commercial charters will be operating for those without their own boat or gear.
Bass fishing is recommended in ponds, rivers and reservoirs throughout the state.
Those looking to catch and release fish are encouraged to fish early in the day when the water and air temperature are the coolest. People should keep the fish in the water while landing and releasing it, and revive the fish in moving water before releasing it.
If the hook cannot be removed easily, people should cut the leader near the hook, which will eventually dissolve.
