A Madras man was found guilty in federal court in Eugene on Friday of purchasing and transporting methamphetamine for distribution.
Ronald Wayne Thrasher, 49, began distributing methamphetamine the spring of 2016 after becoming acquainted with drug traffickers from California and Portland, according to court documents and testimony produced at trial.
In early 2017, after his primary supplier was arrested in Redmond, Thrasher was introduced to Marvin Jones, a meth manufacturer, dealer and user out of the Portland area who sold him several thousand pounds of the drug to distribute throughout Central Oregon.
After several additional methamphetamine deals, Jones sold Thrasher a stolen firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Jones, 53, was also found guilty of selling methamphetamine and possessing a stolen firearm on Friday.
By April 2017, Thrasher was distributing methamphetamine through several associates throughout Central Oregon.
Thrasher later that month was introduced to new California-based methamphetamine suppliers, who sold him approximately 13 pounds of methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Shortly after, a Central Oregon Drug Enforcement team investigation identified Thrasher as a high-volume methamphetamine supplier and distributor. On May 29, 2017, police arrested Thrasher and seized approximately 16 pounds of methamphetamine, $16,000 in cash, records of drug sales and the stolen firearm from his home in Madras.
Thrasher has previously served time in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He will be sentenced on February 4, 2020.
Nine co-defendants, seven of whom are from Central Oregon, have already pleaded guilty to conspiring with Thrasher to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Jason James Puckett, 46, of Prineville; Tyler Wayne Fuller, 30, Renee Marie Scarlett, 48, and Talina Shantel Ortiz, 45, of Madras; Jacklin Renee Bowlby, 36, of Bend; Kerry Wayne Hopson, 33, of Redmond; and Mistie Dawn Cooper, 39, of Alfalfa, are all awaiting sentencing.
