Two people are receiving hospital care, and a Madras man is in custody following a Sunday morning shooting.

Juan Francisco Hernandez-Medina, 36, was arraigned Monday morning in Jefferson County Circuit Court. Medina was still listed Tuesday as an inmate of the Jefferson County jail. His bail has been set at $500,000.

Just after 9 a.m. Sunday, a 911 caller reported a shooting at a residence near SE C and SE 16th streets. Officers with Madras Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find two people shot. They were taken to St. Charles Bend, and a rifle believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered by police.

Detectives eventually identified Hernandez-Medina as a suspect and arrested him on charges related to the assault.

Hernandez-Medina is accused of six felonies — two of attempted aggravated murder, two of first-degree assault and two of unlawful use of a weapon.

The victims are identified in court documents as Joshua Roshone and Marcos Antonio Vargas.

A hospital spokeswoman said St. Charles didn’t have information on the conditions of Roshone and Vargas.
