Officials identified the man presumed drowned Thursday at Wickiup Reservoir as Michael Mead, 29, of Bend.

Mead is missing but believed to have drowned after the canoe he was in with a friend at 2 a.m. Thursday capsized. The other man, 24, and a dog that was on the boat were able to swim to shore.

On Friday, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Marine Patrol, detectives and officers from Klamath County continued to search the reservoir for Mead. They located gear from the canoe on the lake floor Thursday and used side-scanning sonar Friday to search the lake but did not find Mead’s body, according to the sheriff’s office.

Marine patrol units will continue to conduct patrols in the area, searching for Mead.
